May is Mural Month
We are pleased to share with you the exciting collection of local and foreign artists that help beautify our city streets.
Murals are very important to expression on the streets. These temporary Paste Paper murals will be up for one year and then destroyed in April as they are removed. Every May a series of new murals will be pasted up. The intention is to reach out to more regional and national artists and students for this project. The process of paste-paper adhesion is removable with water and steam, does not harm the brick, and is how posters were posted in the early 20th century. All building owners gave their approval for the use of their walls!
This is the fourth year of Keene’s Paste Paper Mural Project "May is Mural Month". It was conceived by Rosemarie Bernardi, Professor of Art at Keene State College, and members of the Mural SubCommittee of Keene Friends of Public Art. She and Friends of Public Art Chair, Georgia Cassimatis, have worked together to seek support from the City of Keene Planning and Historic District Commission. This project is also tied with other permanent murals supported by Keene Friends of Public Art.
